Montreal

Montreal, January 26, 2026 — Mond’Ami, the French-Canadian branch of the Pontifical Missionary Childhood Association, has officially launched its emergency campaign, “Cri du cœur”, a national appeal for solidarity aimed at securing the organization’s long-term sustainability and ensuring the continuation of its mission to serve the world’s most vulnerable children.

Founded in 1843, Mond’Ami has worked for more than 180 years to foster missionary awareness among young people while improving the living conditions of children facing extreme poverty. Through access to education, healthcare, and adequate nutrition, the organization supports children in some of the most fragile regions of the world, while helping young Canadians develop a deeper understanding of global solidarity and shared responsibility.

Today, however, the organization is facing serious challenges that threaten its very survival.

The ongoing secularization of the education system—particularly in Quebec—the decline of Mond’Ami’s presence in schools, and the recent impact of Canada Post strikes on fundraising efforts have significantly weakened its financial position. After years of sustaining essential projects, often beyond its available resources, the organization has now exhausted its financial reserves.

Launched today, the “Cri du cœur” campaign aims to raise $1 million over three years to establish a a long-term reserve fund. This fund will help ensure Mond’Ami’s long-term viability, sustain its support programs for children, and preserve its institutional independence. Thanks to the generosity of major donors and religious communities, more than $120,000 has already been raised.

“Mond’Ami needs strong and sustained support,” said Bishop Martin Laliberté, P.M.E., Bishop of Trois-Rivières and honorary chair of the campaign. “The cry of children is urgent. It speaks directly to us and calls us to action. Everything we do is for them. Responding to this call is a concrete act of solidarity. I encourage everyone to support this vital work and help secure its future. Every gift, no matter the amount, truly makes a difference.”

For Ginette Côté, National Coordinator of Mond’Ami, the campaign represents a shared moral responsibility.

“From the very beginning, Mond’Ami has responded tirelessly to the needs of the most disadvantaged children,” she said. “Today, we are appealing to the generosity of our communities so that this essential mission may continue. In Western societies where individualism too often prevails, the spirit of solidarity we cultivate among young people has a real and lasting impact—both here and abroad.”

The “Cri du cœur” campaign invites individuals and communities to contribute through one-time or planned donations. More information and online giving options are available at mondami.ca/criducoeur.
