The faithful are invited to join Archbishop Christian Lépine for the celebration of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral.

This diocesan celebration will be an opportunity to gather in prayer to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary, who was assumed body and soul into heaven. One of the Church's great Marian feasts, the Assumption reminds us of the hope of the Resurrection and of Mary's unique role in God's plan of salvation, as she continues to intercede for us as Queen of Heaven.

Following the Mass, the faithful are invited to take part in a Marian procession, expressing their faith and trust in the Blessed Virgin's loving intercession.

About the Feast of the Assumption

Celebrated each year on August 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption commemorates the Blessed Virgin Mary's being taken, body and soul, into the glory of heaven. The word Assumption, derived from the Latin assumere, means "to take up" or "to take."

For Christians, this feast celebrates both the completion of Mary's earthly life and her entrance into eternal glory with God. It is an invitation to contemplate in Mary the sign of the hope promised to all who place their trust in Christ.
