Released by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB)

On Thursday, August 28 2025, the Holy See Press Office announced that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV has appointed His Eminence Cardinal Frank Leo, Metropolitan Archbishop of Toronto and former Auxiliary Bishop of Montreal, as a member of the Dicastery for Clergy.

From 2022 to 2023, Cardinal Leo served as auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Montreal, where he left his mark on pastoral life through his attentiveness, closeness, and commitment to the faithful and the presbyterate. The Catholic community of Montreal rejoices at this appointment, which testifies to the Holy Father's confidence in his experience and service to the universal Church.

This appointment is part of a broader announcement by Pope Leo XIV, who appointed 22 new members and 12 new consultors to the Dicastery for the Clergy. The role of the Dicastery is to deal with all matters concerning priests and deacons of the diocesan clergy, supporting bishops and ensuring the formation of future ordained ministers as well as their pastoral accompaniment.
