“Hope that rises”: a new resource for National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21)

National
To mark National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21 in your communities, Mission chez nous is offering a new resource entitled Hope that rises, which suggests liturgical arrangements. These suggestions are offered to encourage all Christians to foster solidarity between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples and, in particular, to “rekindle the desire for authentic encounters.”
“National Aboriginal Day, held on June 21 each year, is ‘a special opportunity to recognize [...] the unique heritage, cultural diversity and remarkable achievements of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples,’ who, according to the Canadian Constitution, together form the Indigenous peoples of Canada.” (Aboriginal and Northern Affairs website – Government of Canada)
In the file, you will find: (AVAILABLE ONLY IN FRENCH)
- universal prayer intentions;
- prayers, both long and short;
- a commentary on readings suggested for Mass during the Holy Year.
At the end, a toolbox offers visuals, gestures, and activities that can be used in different contexts and types of activities or serve as starting points for your teams' creativity.
