Montreal's Corpus Christi Reaches France on KTO Television
Montreal
Montreal's annual Corpus Christi celebration has drawn international attention after KTO, France's national Catholic television network, aired a feature on the feast-day procession that gathered nearly 3,000 faithful in the heart of the city on June 4.
Following a Mass celebrated by Archbishop Christian Lépine of Montreal at Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral, participants joined a candlelit Eucharistic procession through the streets of downtown Montreal, bearing the Blessed Sacrament to Saint Patrick's Basilica, received by its pastor, Msgr. Francis Coyle, CSS, and his team, where Benediction concluded the evening. The well-attended celebration, coordinated by Father Peter Sabbath, longtime organizer of this annual diocesan event, offered a visible witness to the presence of Christ within the life of the city.
In the broadcast, Father Jean-Chrysostome Zoloshi, pastor of Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral, spoke to the deeper significance of the celebration. God, he noted, is present not only within church walls but in the midst of everyday life, in the places where people live, work and encounter one another.
The broadcast also gave voice to participants and representatives of Catholic organizations, among them the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and the Knights of Columbus. Each spoke to the importance of proclaiming their faith in the public square and contributing to the Church's mission of evangelization.
In a society where secularization has transformed the religious landscape, many faithful expressed their desire to rediscover and share the Christian spiritual heritage that has marked Quebec’s history. For them, the procession is a sign of hope, communion and renewed faith.
Beyond the procession itself, Corpus Christi remains an occasion of prayer, adoration and witness, reminding the faithful that the Eucharist is at the heart of Christian life. It is the source and summit of the Christian life, sustaining the Church’s mission and renewing the faith of believers. The remarkable attendance this year bears witness to the missionary zeal and vitality of Montreal’s Catholic communities.
We are grateful to KTO for this coverage, which allows Francophone audiences around the world to discover the richness of this celebration as it is lived in our local Church.
