Trois-Rivières – March 10, 2023 | The Bishops of Quebec concluded their Plenary Assembly today, which had begun on March 6. The meeting was greatly inspired by the synodal process and provided an opportunity for many fruitful and stimulating exchanges.

After two days devoted entirely to the synod, the bishops were pleased to have been able to engage with collaborators from across the province. Inspired with the recommendations and comments they listened to, they are ready to return to their respective dioceses to carry out the great transformation.

"The Church is first and foremost the people who belong to it. As pastors, we have had the privilege of listening to the stories about what is being accomplished in the other dioceses, and as we come away we are enriched by them," said AECQ President Bishop Christian Rodembourg.

Opportunities for exchange

In the course of the week, many guests also took the floor to further highlight various issues. The bishops took the opportunity to talk about the work of pastoral agents in Quebec, as well as the theological and pastoral training that is offered in the province.

Throughout these exchanges, the bishops reiterated the importance of the pastoral agents’ work in parishes within their dioceses, and they expressed their desire to do whatever they can to promote that vocation.

The two-day meeting was also a chance to focus on the 60th anniversary of the Office de catéchèse du Québec. At the closing banquet, Director of the OCQ Suzanne Desrochers received a donation from the Albert-Lapointe Foundation, ensuring that the organization will be able to carry on its mission.

The next Plenary Assembly of the Bishops of Quebec will be held in September in Rouyn-Noranda and Amos.
