One Table, Many Borders: An Episcopal Conversation on Migration and Human Dignity
Montreal
From April 13 to 16, 2026, the Archdiocese of Montreal welcomed His Eminence Cardinal Fabio Baggio, C.S., a Scalabrinian missionary priest and Under-Secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, alongside Catholic bishops from Canada, the United States, Mexico and Costa Rica, for a series of wide-ranging exchanges on the pastoral challenges surrounding migration, welcome and the integration of newcomers.
Organized by the diocesan Office for Cultural and Ritual Communities, the gathering brought together not only episcopal voices from across the Americas but also organizations working directly with migrants and refugees on the ground. Among the Canadian bishops present were Bishop Noël Simard, Bishop Emeritus of Valleyfield, and Bishop Pierre Goudreault of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Together, participants took stock of the realities of human mobility today and reflected on how the Church can continue to uphold the dignity of every person regardless of origin or status, and to advance genuine solidarity and inclusion in its communities.
