Spirit
of the tournament

Often, young people are convinced
that their spiritual life is completely
separate from their everyday life.

The Apostles’ Cup bridges the gap between a young person’s faith and their involvement in sports; a sphere of their life in which faith is not always so apparent. Pope Francis says it best:

“Challenge yourself in the game of life like you are in the game of sports. Challenge yourself in the quest for good, in both Church and society, without fear, with courage and enthusiasm. Get involved with others and with God; don’t settle for a mediocre; ‘tie’, give it your best, spend your life on what really matters and lasts forever.”

Indeed, many of today’s young people excel in their athletic abilities, not realizing the Christian virtues they have developed through their practice over the years: temperance, humility, courage, and patience; all this and more through the sheer joy of besting oneself.
Indeed, many of today’s young people excel in their athletic abilities, not realizing the Christian virtues they have developed through their practice over the years: temperance, humility, courage, and patience; all this and more through the sheer joy of besting oneself. As the Apostle Paul tells the Corinthians: Do you know that in a race all runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way that gets the prize. (1 Cor 9:24)
