Communiqué from the Archbishop of Montreal
on Cardinal
Jean-Claude Turcotte's Health

Montreal, March 26, 2015

At the end of last summer, Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte was hospitalized. Despite the high-quality care he received and the devotion of his loved ones, his health continued to deteriorate until he was admitted to a palliative care unit on March 24.

It is with great sadness that I share this news with you, a sadness which I share with his family and with all those who know him. I ask that eveyone respect his and his family's privacy, so that they may live this stage together serenely and at their own pace.

I am mindful of the faithful of the archdiocese who were under the Cardinal's devoted pastoral care; of the media, with whom he had worked extensively; and of the public, who has appreciated him for many years. Together, may we support them, him and his family, by honoring their wishes and keeping them in our prayers.

Let us entrust Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte to Jesus, our risen Lord.
