Priest

Archbishop Lépine during the ordination of a priestAre you over 18 years of age and thinking of becoming a priest?

Here is the process to follow:

First, contact the vocations director for English-speaking candidates. He will invite you to meet with him personally to talk about your life and faith journey. He will tell you about the various activities that are currently being offered to assist you during this discernment process.
  • The "Come and See" evenings take place at Annunciation Parish. (PDF document)
The vocations director for anglophones is Father Robert Clark. You may reach him at 514-903-6200 or at mtlvocations@hotmail.com.

Second, you may request admission to the Year for Spiritual Growth (in French), which is a requirement prior to seeking admission to the Grand Séminaire de Montréal. This new introductory year is required by the Catholic Church (Pope Francis, in the Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis of December 2016). The year begins in the month of September at the Grand Séminaire de Montréal.

Third, following the discernment meetings and the Year for Spiritual Growth, you will be able to apply for admission to the Grand Séminaire de Montréal as a full-time seminarian. You will study in French. Little by little and with the help of God's grace, you will follow university-level courses in philosophy and theology, complement your academic formation with concrete pastoral practice, become a deacon and then a priest.

  • Admission requirements for the Grand Séminaire de Montréal, GSM (PDF document to be attached)
  • Comprehensive training program at the GSM (PDF document to be attached)
  • Scholarships available to seminarians in Montreal for their formation (PDF Document to be attached)
  • English-speaking candidates are sponsored by the Diocesan Priesthood Guild.

Are you over 18 years of age and hail from another country?  Would you like to become a priest and study at the Grand Séminaire de Montréal?

  • Candidates must be Canadian residents prior to their request for admission to the Year for Spiritual Growth or at least be in the process of obtaining this status
  • Knowledge of the French language is essential as the studies and training at the Grand Séminaire de Montréal are in French.
  • Candidates must be single.
