Solidarity Haiti
AAt the
suggestion of Jean-Claude Cardinal Turcotte, the journalist Sophie Brouillet of
Mediapaul accompanied a delegation formed by the Canadian Major Superiors of
Religious Communities, which went to Haiti at the end of May 2011, to
meet with members of the Haitian Religious Conference.
This
meeting, under the banner of solidarity, was drafted to allow a better
understanding of the country's reality and of its inhabitants, to take part in
the assistance and reconstruction efforts stemming from the solutions offered
to the emergency situation by each religious congregation, to analyse the
country's Church and religious reality and finally to reflect on the prophetic
mission of consecrated life in the context of a great distress situation.
The project
was coordinated by Sister Kesta Occident, c.s.c., and by Sister Pierrette
Bertrand OFSJ, in collaboration with the Haitian Religious Conference. The
delegates were greeted and housed by various religious congregations.
It is with
enthusiasm that Sophie Brouillet had accepted to go to Haiti. Her
interviews and journalistic reports have already been posted on our website. We
thought of making them once again available, on the occasion of the second
anniversary of the natural disaster that has so brutally devastated that
country.
