2017-12-01

Participants of the live Nativity scene, in front of Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours ChapelOn December 9 in the heart of Old Montreal, a torchlight procession and live nativity scene will commemorate Ville Marie’s first Christmas, 375 years ago. A number of historic figures will take part, including Jeanne Mance and Maisonneuve.

Organized by the Notre-Dame Basilica Pastoral Department, in collaboration with Bande FM (faith and mission), the first edition of the Christmas with Maisonneuve and Jeanne Mance torchlight procession and live nativity scene will start at dusk, after the Choralies Christmas choral concert presented in the warmth of the splendid Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel.

Participants, including about thirty historic figures, will be dressed in special costumes. The procession will feature singing and the ativity narrative. It will start outside the Ville-Marie Fort site (Pointe à Callière) and end at the chapel founded by Marguerite Bourgeoys, the first teacher in Montreal and founder of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame.

During one of the scenes, offerings will be made to Notre-Dame de la rue, an organization that helps the homeless people in Montreal.
