Brian and I have four children. The two youngest are twin girls. When she was ten months old, Isabelle was diagnosed with profound cerebral palsy and intellectual disability, and cortical blindness. Her twin, at the age of 15, was diagnosed with pervasive developmental disorder (of the autism family).

Signs of Hope : An Interview with Jean Vanier

Jean Vanier was born in Geneva, Switzerland, September 10, 1928. He is the son of Pauline and Georges Vanier, first French-speaking governor-general of Canada. After spending part of his youth in the British Royal Navy, he pursued doctoral studies in philosophy, concentrating on the human search for happiness. His own personal and spiritual quest took a decisive turn in 1964, when he bought a small house in the village of Trosly-Breuil (France).
