» Tôt ou tard, dans la vie de chaque personne, la maladie et la souffrance viennent frapper, parfois très durement. Pourquoi faut-il souffrir? Pourquoi vivre? Comment garder espoir?
Alors que se poursuit le débat sur l’euthanasie et le suicide assisté dans notre société, l’Organisme catholique pour la vie et la famille vient de lancer un dépliant sur le sens chrétien de la souffrance. Je vous invite à lire ce texte qui offre aux personnes malades, comme aux personnes bien portantes l’occasion de saisir ou d’approfondir la signification que le Christ vient donner à nos vies et à nos souffrances.

Sooner or later, in the life of every person, illness and suffering strike, sometimes very hard. Why must we suffer? Why live? How can we maintain hope?
Given the ongoing debate in our society on euthanasia and assisted suicide, the Catholic Organization for Life and Family has just published a leaflet on the Christian meaning of suffering. I invite you to read this document, which offers to both the sick and the healthy alike a unique opportunity to grasp or comprehend more fully the meaning that Christ brings to our lives and our sufferings.

En début de semaine prochaine, avec Mgr Anthony Mancini et Mgr Lionel Gendron, je me rendrai à Toronto afin de participer à la cérémonie d’installation du nouvel archevêque de Toronto, Mgr Thomas Collins. Avant cette nomination, Mgr Collins était archevêque d’Edmonton.
Je tiens à le féliciter pour ce nouveau ministère que lui confie notre Saint Père. Notre collaboration lui est acquise. |  |
Bishop Thomas Collins Appointed

Early next week, Bishop Anthony Mancini, Bishop Lionel Gendron, and myself will be going to Toronto to take part in the installation ceremony of the new archbishop the Most Reverend Thomas Collins. Before being appointed to Toronto, Bishop Collins was the archbishop of Edmonton.
I wish to congratulate him on this new ministry, bestowed upon him by the Holy Father, and want to assure him of our sincere collaboration.

Pour
aider les équipes de liturgie dans la préparation des grandes célébrations
du Triduum pascal, nous rappelons les éléments suivants:
le Jeudi saint, seule la messe de la Cène du Seigneur, en soirée, à l’heure qui convient le mieux est célébrée en ce jour; le Vendredi saint, aucune eucharistie n’est célébrée, mais la communion qui nous met en lien avec la Cène du Jeudi saint et nous tient dans l’espérance de la Résurrection est distribuée à l’office de la Passion; le Samedi saint, l’Église, par respect pour le Christ qui est au tombeau, ne célèbre sacramentellement que le sacrement du pardon et le sacrement des malades en cas d’urgence. Dans le même esprit, la communion aux malades n’est donnée qu’en viatique.Des rassemblements de prière pourraient être organisés autour de la liturgie des heures; la Veillée pascale, « mère de toutes les veillées », où se célèbre, entre autres, la liturgie de la lumière, débute, pour bien signifier cet aspect, après la tombée de la nuit du samedi. De plus, pour mettre l’accent sur les mystères soulignés en ces jours, l’Église ne célèbre ni mariage, ni funérailles durant le Triduum pascal. Si une célébration pour un défunt ne peut être différée, la liturgie de la Parole et le rite du dernier adieu seront complétés, sans eucharistie ni communion. On pourra relire sur le sujet les pages 40 à 42, 67, 114 et 142 du Guide canonique et pastoral au service des paroisses. En outre, pour leur permettre de recevoir en temps opportun les délégations voulues, il est demandé aux prêtres paroissiaux ayant fait une préparation locale pour célébrer le baptême d’une personne de 14 ans ou plus, recevoir la profession de foi d’une personne validement baptisée en dehors de l’Église catholique ou confirmer un baptisé à la Veillée pascale, de nous adresser leur demande au plus tard le 9 mars 2007 Bons préparatifs! To
assist liturgical ministers with their preparations for the celebration of th
Easter Triduum, the following guidelines are recalled: on Holy Thursday, only the Mass of the Last Supper « In Cena Domini » is to be celebrated during the evening, at the most convenient time; on Good Friday, there is no Eucharist celebrated. However, Holy Communion, which links us to the celebration of the Last Supper on Holy Thursday and which upholds our hope of the Resurrection, is received during the celebration of the Passion of Christ; on Holy Saturday, out of respect for Christ in the tomb, the Church does not celebrate any sacraments except Reconciliation and the Anointing of the Sick in case of an emergency. In keeping with this spirit, Communion to the sick is to be given only as viaticum. Gatherings could take place to celebrate the Liturgy of the Hours the Easter Vigil is the most important celebration of the Church’s liturgy. Among the various aspects of this liturgy, the Service of Light is celebrated. In order to underline its significance, it should begin only after nightfall on Holy Saturday. Furthermore, to emphasize the mysteries celebrated during these three days, the Church does not perform weddings or funerals during the Easter Triduum. If a funeral service cannot be postponed, then only the Liturgy of the Word and the Rite of the Last Farewell will be celebrated without Mass or Communion. Pages 40, 41, 67, 112 and 140 of the « Canonical and Pastoral Guide for Parishes » cover these topics and can be consulted. Finally, in order that the necessary authorizations may be received on time, we ask parish priests who plan on celebrating the following events during the Easter Vigil: Baptism of a person of 14 or more years of age, Reception of the Profession of Faith of a person validly baptized outside the Catholic Church, or Confirmation of someone already baptized, to address their requests to the Chancery Office no later than March 9, 2007.
