After High School studies at Darcy McGee and Seminary of Philosophy, Shaun Govenlock enters the Grand Séminaire de Montréal and is ordained to the priesthood on June 19, 1943 by Archbishop Joseph Charbonneau.
After two years of parish ministry at Saint Raphael's, he will then specialize in Social Work studies and become involved with Saint Patrick's Orphanage, the School of Social Work Faculty of Social Science of the University of Montreal, where he will hold the charge of Chaplain, Assistant Director, Professor and Director of Studies for the next 17 years. Later on from 1966 to 1968 he will be visiting professor at the University of Manitoba. Professor and Director of studies again at the Université de Montréal School of Social Work from 1968 to 1971, he will then be named Director at Carleton University School of Social Work, in Ottawa. His final ministry will be as visiting professor at the Graduate School of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo Ontario from 1972 till his retirement in 1981 when he started residing at Annunciation of Our Lady and continued his priestly functions, helping out in the archdiocese.
His funeral service took place on September 23, at St. Patrick's Basilica.
