NOTRE-DAME BASILICA: CHOIR CONCERTS

This month, enjoy the magic of choral music in performances by world-famous choirs at the Basilica (110 Notre-Dame St. West, Montreal). Cost is included in the admission fees: $6 for 18 and older; $4 ages 7-17; free for ages 6 and younger. Concerts run for 30 minutes:

 

  • March 13, 10:30am: Eastern Chamber Singers

The premiere vocal ensemble comprised of 20-25 auditioned singers from various depart ments throughout the Eastern Connecticut State University.  Repertoire encompasses chamber music from more than four centuries.

  • March 14, 2pm: Rider High School Choir

From Wichita Falls, Texas, this choir has also performed in Boston, MA and most recently at the Polynesian Cultural Centre in Hawaii.

  • March 17, 10am: Huntsville Youth Orchestra

Founded in 1961, HYO is among the finest youth orchestras in the southeast region of the United States.

CONCERT SERIES AT JOSEPH’S ORATORY

Enjoy “nouvellegénérations.orgue”, a concert series dedicated to upcoming young composers, in collaboration with Montréal Nouvelle Musique.  Concerts run Sundays at 3:30pm (3800 Queen Mary Rd., Montreal) until February 26. PETER’S CHORD IN CONCERT: ‘MOMENTS OF GRACE’

Enjoy an evening performance by the 10-voice, all-clergy choir on Friday, August 19 or Saturday, August 20, 6pm both nights at St. Willibrord Parish (351 Willibrord Ave., Verdun). Suggested
donation of $20. Proceeds will go towards the ongoing construction of St. John Evangelist School of Theology in Palo, Leyte, Philippines, which was badly damaged by typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). NOTRE-DAME-DE-BON-SECOURS CHAPEL: LUNCHTIME CONCERTS

At lunchtime, music lovers, passersby and downtown workers are invited to enjoy a musical break. They’ll be able to hear 17th- and 18th-century pieces performed by the Chapel’s organist, Benoît Marineau. The organ, built by Casavant Frères in 1910 (op. 401), was restored from 1999 to 2002 by the Guilbault-Thérien firm. Admission is free and all are welcome! Notre-Dame Basilica: Vinton Baptist Church Choir

The youth choir of Vinton Baptist Church is a group of singers 13-18 years old. They tour each summer singing a mix of classic anthems, hymn tunes and worship songs. Come see them perform on Monday, June 15 at 10am (116 Notre-Dame St. West, Montreal). Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel: Gospel Fever

Gospel Fever is back at the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel! From February 20 to 28, during the Montreal Highlights Festival, head to Montreal’s oldest stone chapel (400 St. Paul St. East) and be inspired by the energy and enthusiasm of these gospel ensembles. Get ready to sing, sway and dance along with them. Four magical evenings are planned, including three closing concerts on the final evening, which is also Nuit blanche à Montréal. Don’t miss this authentic gospel experience in the heart of Old Montréal!

Our Lady of Fatima Parish: Christmas Pageant

To remind us of the real meaning of Christmas and presented by the children of the Be My Disciples Program on Saturday, December 20 following the 4:30pm Mass (875 Marcel-Laurin Blvd., Montreal). Side Door Coffee House

Presents live music at 8pm on Friday, December 12 at St. David Parish hall (12450 Gascon St., Pierrefonds). Featuring Douglas Murphy, The Hampton Street Coffee Grinders, Rob Lutes and maybe a Christmas tune or two by Plain Folk!
