Youth Ministry: Youth Summit – Effata!

The Youth Summit is a bilingual gathering of young adults (18-35 years) from across Canada who wish to deepen their faith and to live it actively. The themes of the activities inspire a rediscovery of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist as well as our Christian mission as young people. Join us from Friday, May 16 to Sunday, May 19 in Quebec City. Jesus Light of the World Parish: First Friday of the Month

St. Thomas à Becket Parish: First Friday Adoration and Praying for Your Family

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for Adoration will be held from 10am-midnight on Friday, May 2 (4320 Ste-Anne St., Pierrefonds). Please join us from 5pm-6pm as we pray for your family before the Blessed Sacrament. Contact the office at 514-626-4111.

National March for Life in Ottawa

Join bishops, priests, and thousands of others in Ottawa on Thursday, May 8 to show support for life from conception to natural death. Chartered buses ($35) will leave Montreal and arrive in Ottawa for 10am Mass, followed by a gathering on Parliament Hill and the march itself. The bus returns to the parish late afternoon (see itinerary below). What we do makes a difference: this Lent, the world-wide 40 Days for Life initiative saved 720 babies from death in their mother’s womb. Last year, an estimated 25,000 pro-lifers assembled on Parliament Hilll and marched through downtown Ottawa to inform Canadians that we are the only western nation with no protection for the unborn child. Mark Your Calendars: SUPPORTING PARISH WITNESS, VITALITY: AIM OF CONFERENCE

The parish is the Church present in the neighborhood. If the call for a New Evangelization is to have local impact, it will largely be a result of the witness and vitality offered by your parish. To support your efforts, the Office for English Pastoral Services is organizing a parish-focused conference, November 13-15. Open to everyone involved or interested in parish life, more details will be available in June.

St. Thomas à Becket Parish: Knitpickers Update

Another cornucopia of knitting and crocheting items were received at our last meeting. 30 more lapghans for the geriatric floor of the Royal Victoria Hospital brought our total to 70! Only 30 more to go for our Christmas pledge and 30 pairs of slippers will be included. Bravo once again to all our members! Madre dei Cristiani Parish: Nonna’s Tea –Continental Breakfast

Please join us for a morning with your Nonna (grandmother) on Saturday, May 31, 10am (7935 Lefebvre St., LaSalle). Those children, who do not have a nonna, may be accompanied by another family member. Cost is $10. Continental Breakfast will be served. Octet Plus Benefit Concert

A semi-professional choir directed by Connie Osborne, is giving a benefit concert for the St. Vincent de Paul Society in aid of funding for the Lachine Food Bank. The performance will take place on Wednesday, May 14, 7:30pm at Summerlea United Church, (225 – 50th Avenue, Lachine). This promises to be a great concert with light refreshments following. Easter Mystagogia: Do You Understand What Happened at Your Baptism?

You are invited to a series of mystagogical catecheses to be held on Sundays, May 11, 18 and 25 from 6:30pm-7:30pm at Our Lady of Fatima Parish (875 Marcel-Laurin Blvd., St-Laurent). With Richard Bernier, past director of the Newman Centre and doctoral student at McGill who is presently responsible for the RCIA at Newman Centre. For those who so desire, there will be time of quiet prayer from 7:30pm to 8pm after which you may also stay for the Sunday Eucharist, celebrated by Bishop Thomas Dowd. Please rsvp before May 6. When Helping You Is Hurting Me: Escaping the Messiah Trap with Cathie Macaulay

All are welcome on Saturday, May 3 from 9am – 3pm at The Ignatian Spirituality Centre (4567 West Broadway, Montreal). Cost is $60. This workshop explores seven common styles of being a “Messiah” and some of the ways in which we can become aware of unhealthy patterns in our helping relationships. The course also looks at healthy models of Christian service and leadership.  In an interactive way, students will explore the balance in their own lives of service, and increase awareness of how to make decisions and find balance in their busy lives.
