November 10-12, 2016

The three-day conference, under the theme Unleashing Our Gifts: Encounter the Giver, Embrace your Gifts, will include 17 How-To workshops to help parishes explore different opportunities for people to recognize their God-given gifts and share them, not only through parish ministry, but at home, at work and in their communities.

In addition, a Catholic Community Rally will be held on the second evening, featuring more than 40 groups and organizations that contribute to the vitality of the diocesan community. This event is being organized by the English Speaking Catholic Council.

“One of the things that’s so compelling about Pope Francis is he does not radiate institution. He radiates a living relationship and that’s incredibly compelling to 21st-century people.”
SHERRY WEDDELL, BECOMING A PARISH OF INTENTIONAL DISCIPLES

Pope Francis says the joy of coming to know Christ is meant for everyone, and he encourages “the Christian faithful to embark on a new chapter of evangelization marked mby this joy”. (Evangelii Gaudium, Joy of the Gospel, #1).

Parish communities must draw nearer to the people, becoming key centres in helping people to know Jesus again or to being open to Him encountering them. Parishes are called to be a “sanctuary where the thirsty come to drink in the midst of their journey, and a centre of constant missionary outreach.” (#28)

And each of us has something to contribute.

This conference will focus on two priorities: to identify and embrace the God-given gifts each of us has received and to explore how these gifts can best help our world, including helping our parishes to grow as missionary and life-giving communities.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER
CATHERINE OF SIENA INSTITUTE (COLORADO SPRINGS, CO)

Deacon Keith Strohm, speaker and teacher from the Catherine of Siena Institute in Colorado Springs, will deliver the keynote address Nov. 10.

A contributing author to Becoming a Parish of Intentional Disciples, Deacon Strohm will explore the work entrusted to ordinary people like us “who are called to do extraordinary things” through the gifts we have received from God.

Participants will find out how their parish can honour and share these gifts as missionary communities, and what impact these gifts have on the work of the New Evangelization.

Titled Set the World Ablaze: Unleashing the Charisms for the New Evangelization, the keynote will be presented at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral, 7 p.m., and is open to the public.
